Hogwarts Castle

Entrance Hall

Located on the ground floor of Hogwarts, it has a wide marble staircase opposite its oak doors. The entrance hall has a flagstone floor with double doors to the right that lead into the Great Hall and, on the other side of the hall, Slughorn's Stairs led to the Dungeon Corridor. Another door leads to the Classroom Eleven corridor. Other corridors accessed by the hall allowed passage to the staffroom corridor.

Great Hall

The main place where students receive their meals and daily owl posts. They also hold certain special events, such as the Sorting Ceremony.

The large hall has enough space to hold every student, as well as the main staff and guests. The Hall has tall walls that reach up to the ceiling, which is covered with floating candles and enchanted to look like the sky above.

Gryffindor Tower

A tower that is the common room and dormitories for the students of Gryffindor. In general, it sports several shades of red and gold. The fireplace mantle is adorned with a portrait of a lion (associated with the house) and the room is described as being 'cosy'.

Ravenclaw Tower

A tower that is the common room and dormitories for the students of Ravenclaw House. In general, it sports several shades of blue with bronze (all associated with the house). It is also the airiest of the four common rooms.

Astronomy Tower

The tallest tower at Hogwarts Castle. It is where students study the stars and planets through their telescopes in Astronomy lessons. This is usually done at midnight when the stars are best seen. The tower is generally out-of-bounds except for classes.

Duelling Room

This room was built in the dungeons so students of Hogwarts could practise safe and supervised duelling in the Hogwarts Duelling Club. Any destruction caused by these duels was left there so other students who wanted to duel could see how dangerous duelling can be, and consider the implications of unfriendly spells.

The Dungeons

Located under Hogwarts it is colder than in the main castle. The Potions classroom is located in the dungeons, as was the entrance to the Slytherin common room. The dungeons were also once used as places of detention according to Argus Filch, where misbehaving students would be hung from their thumbs.

Hogwarts Grounds

Courtyards

Six of these dot the area of Hogwarts Castle where students often spent their breaktimes between classes when not in the Great Hall or their common rooms.

The Lawns

The sloping lawns recede toward a smooth, flat lawn on the opposite side of the grounds to the forbidden forest, whose trees were swaying darkly in the distance. Everything from flying lessons to studying to snowball fights happen here during the school year.

Greenhouses

Seven in total these greenhouses serve as classrooms for Herbology and are home to many exotic and magical plants including some that are extremely rare, difficult to cultivate and maintain, or dangerous, such as Mandrakes, Venomous Tentacula or Snargaluffs.

The Black Lake

A large landlocked freshwater lake that is located to the south of Hogwarts Castle. The castle stands on a cliff overlooking the water. It was about half a mile in diameter and the castle's plumbing network drained into it. The lake has many very unusual inhabitants, including a Giant Squid, a village of merpeople, and many Grindylows.

Quidditch Pitch

A place for Quidditch teams to practise, hold tryouts and play matches against each other. Each year would see a total of six inter-house matches (with each house competing for the Quidditch Cup playing against one another), along with numerous training sessions by each house team.

Forbidden Forest

A forest that bordered the edges of the grounds of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. As the forest's name suggests, it was strictly off-limits to students — except in the case of detention, or Care of Magical Creatures lessons that occasionally took place there. Of course, with the various dangerous creatures living in the Forest, few students would even want to venture into it.

London

Capital of England and the United Kingdom. There are a number of magical homes and places hidden in the city known to only those who are magical themselves.

Diagon Alley

Accessible from Muggle London through the Leaky Cauldron, which was on Charing Cross Road, set between a bookshop and a record shop. The Muggles who passed by the inn seem to be "quite unconscious" of its existence.

Knockturn Alley

A shopping area off Diagon Alley in London. It is filled with numerous shops devoted to the Dark Arts, including Borgin and Burkes, which specializes in objects that have curious and strong magical properties. Unusual, sinister and sometimes dangerous individuals walked around and shopped in the area.

Godric's Hollow

A village in the West Country of England. It is a small community, centred on a village square with only a church, a post office, a pub, and a few retail shops. The residential streets were lined with quaint cottages, there is an area called Church Lane that leads up to the church.

Hogsmeade

One of only a few all-wizarding villages in Britain. It was founded by Hengist of Woodcroft. Since before 1714, Hogwarts third-years and above had been permitted weekend trips into the village.

Trillenium Stadium

Built in the middle of a largely deserted moor in Dartmoor, the Quidditch stadium is capable of holding 100,000 wizards at once, with halls draped in scarlet.
