He isn't a terrible person, necessarily, but he is anything but endearing. He's a smart young man; intelligent in more ways than one and well able to make use of that intelligence; and doesn't he just know it. His ego might be annoying as hell to his peers but it is, generally, very well earned. When he finds something that interests him he's rather like a terrier with a rat about it, plundering whatever sources he can find to get all the relevant knowledge he can. It isn't all theoretical either. Whenever possible, Ash gets as hands-on as the laws of science, magic, or man will allow. (No, Ash, you cannot vivisect a blast ended screwt and you cannot try out new hexes on your peers.) Although this sometimes wreaks havoc on his wardrobe, vanity takes a backseat to the wonders of SCIENCE and MAGIC! Moreover, Ash does not take the soft and cuddly approach with his fellow humans. Give him a large feline and you'll see a different side, but humans are too prone to wasting their perfectly good brains of Ash to pull any punches. He knows full well when to be tactful but is only inclined to be so with those who have proven to be worth the courtesy. He also pushes people's buttons when he feels they deserve it (generally after being especially idiotic in his presence). Unknowingly, he can also be horribly impulsive both in word and deed. This has lead to more than a few hard feelings and cracked crowns. Now, that isn't to say that he is a horrible, rotten, little shitehead (even though it might seem that way sometimes). When he wants to be, he's actually quite amiable, and isn't adverse to helping his Housemates out from time to time. On a really good day he might even walk an old lady across a street, but that might be a bit of a stretch. Still, for all his sharp-tongued, irritating, egocentric ways, Ashwyn pushes himself even harder than he pushes the rest of humanity. After all, he doesn't know everything yet and besides, idiots need a good example to follow. His dad could do magic and worked for a magical newspaper. This was, of course, kept very hush hush outside the family but it made young Ashwyn very smug about the not so little secret once he was old enough to be privy to it. His family was special and friggin' amazing. Because magic, dammit! (And his mom's practically a genius so nyaaa to normal families.) When he was two his younger fraternal twin sisters came along. Since they were rather close in age it was quite the handful for their poor parents, especially since both Ash and one of the twins were showing evidence of magic from very young ages. But there was nothing to be had for it. No child of Irene's was going to grow up without a proper education, magic be damned, and muggle-born himself, Emery quite agreed. So off they all went to nice normal muggle schooling. From rather early on it was clear that Ash had a passion for the same field as his mother: science. Needless to say, however, his plans to become a mad scientist of great renowned were cut rather short when he got his Hogwarts letter. No problem, he decided, he'd just be a mad scientist-wizard of great renowned and learn everything there was to know! (cue maniacal laughter) His father tried to instill some self preservation and caution into his son; the current Wizarding world wasn't precisely warm and welcoming to Muggles or Muggleborns and while a Half-blood, Ash was socially much more like his Muggleborn peers given his upbringing. It was less than 100% effective but it was better than nothing. School Years || It took the Sorting Hat almost 5 minutes to sort Ashwyn, seemingly torn between Slytherin and Ravenclaw for the right house fit. Eventually Ravenclaw was decided upon, Ash's unquenchable thirst for knowledge in it's own right apparently slightly stronger than his overinflated ego and grand schemes. He fit in quite well in his House; smart, driven, and possibly a bit mad. If he didn't make great friends of his Housemates he didn't completely alienate them either. After all, they were using their brains for the most part and were therefore worth the time and effort it took to be amiable. Students outside Ravenclaw had to do more to prove themselves worth his time. But living in the Wizarding world did something his father's efforts had not. Ashwyn came to understand the current status quo regarding blood purity. Grant it, he found it to be utterly absurd on a multitude of levels but was smart enough to keep his mouth shut on the matter 99.9% of the time. With an ego and aptitude like his it was hard to keep his head down, however. Unobtrusive this boy was not. With a knack for Potions and Transfiguration, Ash did pretty well for himself in the grades department across the board. Now in his fifth year, he's still doing well in his classes, still doing science-magic experiments that sometimes blow up messily, and still making a right arse of himself. He tries to keep an eye out for his little sister, at Hogwarts without her twin, but sometimes he's a better brother than others and he's always himself, which is often a handful all on its own.
